I wasn't looking forward to the mess that would come about with this renovation, but boy I was ready to have this room transformed! The brick hearth was put there in the original build as there used to be a wood heater. Now there is a gas heater, there is no reason to keep the ugly bulky hearth!

Room all cleared, heater taken out to be reinstalled at the end.
Ian starting the big job of using the hammer drill to take out the mortar so the bricks could be taken down one level at a time.

Seb loves helping out Ian when he's doing work around the house. Ian was patient and let Seb have a go at the big hammer drill :)
Hearth all gone. Woohoo!
We had the plasterer in to fix up all the little holes in the wall. Ian did a clean up, then it was ready for painting.

Zoe likes to sit around looking pretty while the dirty work gets done :) She does come up to us quite often and gives us hugs and says she loves us though.

At the same time we also painted our kitchen, dining room, and hallway. Plus the ceiling. Big big job.

As usual, the kids loved rolling around on the freshly layed carpet :)
After the furniture was moved back in. It feels so much bigger, homely, and warm now. After this photo, we had a ceiling fan installed, and the plumper in to put in the new flue for the heater.
Oh, and while this was all going on, Ian also tiled the splash back in the kitchen.
Just to prove I did something, here's a photo of me doing some painting! Ian usually does the rolling, and I paint the trims. Because they were all brown, they needed sanding, treatment, two undercoats, and two topcoats!
That is the bulk of our renovating done and dusted!
